Four Play: Download The Best New Tracks Out Of West Africa
Handpicked for your ears.
For our first Four Play playlist in months, we picked noteworthy new releases from Nigerian and West African artistes. Stream/download below.
1. Clay — Potatoes (Feat. Mak4)
Underexposed singer Clay’s outstanding vocal signature is the best thing about her latest single, Potatoes, an alternative track that could have done without Mak4’s forgettable rap verse.
2. Chordratic Beats — Number One
Talented singer, songwriter and producer Chordratic Beats (real name Princewill Johnson) fuses lively highlife instrumentals with particularly fine singing on Number One. The upbeat song could easily be the opening number of a thanksgiving service.
3. Strongman — All My Money (Feat. Edem & Lil Shaker)
Ghanaian rapper Strongman recruits countrymen Edem and Lil Shaker for All My Money, a thumping hip hop jam with a trippy beat, solid verses and a catchy hook—the makings of a future hit. Say we told you so.
4. Ink Edwards — Baddest 2.0 (Feat. Pasuma, Falz & M.I.)
Ink Edwards’s Baddest, a dancehall collab with M.I. Abaga, was one of 2014’s breakout hits. Over a year since its May 2014 debut, the song gets a remix featuring guest verses from crossover fuji star Pasuma and voguish rapper Falz as well as a fresh set of bars from M.I. We’re calling it the standout track of this playlist.
